The future of work.
The millennial workforce is challenging the way we traditionally think of "the office" and what modern work spaces should look like. AVO addresses the need for seating within an office that allows for users to break away from their desk and move their work to a more free and relaxing space. When arranged into group configurations, it can provide the perfect space for small group meetings and collaboration. AVO was a team project with Colin Bauer, Evan Demczuk and Alec Paprocki.
Inspired by the hard exterior and soft flesh of an avocado, we wanted to create an experience of comfort while blocking unwanted distractions and sounds of the surrounding environment.
Solidworks models were developed in order to check that all the geometry would work. We then proceeded to CNC machining all of the separate panels and the internal skeleton that gives the chair its support.
Material selection
Sound dampening 100% wool creates a quiet space, used on the exterior and interior of the chair. Removable cushions are also made from the same material. Solid maple table provides a hard and flat work surface, also used for the legs. Pine plywood is used for the structure of the chair, making the chair lightweight and easily movable.
